Juniper Networks SSL VPN New SA line FAQ
As of August 5, Juniper has launched a new licensing model, to make it easier than ever to buy and upgrade these award-winning SA appliances. In addition, Juniper is offering new hardware platforms in the Secure Access product line, including the SA 700, SA 2000, SA 4000, and SA 6000. What are the key pricing change?
What types of licenses are available? There are five groups of licenses available in addition to the hardware base system. Base Hardware SystemYou always start with the base hardware system: SA700, SA2000, SA4000, or SA6000. The base hardware system will have minimal functionality allowing you to complete the basic network configuration and troubleshooting before you can install the licenses. User LicensesThe user licenses enable you to support as many concurrent users as specified in the license for Core Access and for all the feature licenses you have bought and installed. User licenses are additive. For example if you bought a SA4000-ADD-100U license and then bought another SA4000-ADD-100U license, you will have 200 concurrent users. On the SA2000, SA4000, and SA6000 you will then have the equivalent of a Baseline product in the old licensing model. On the SA700 you will have only Network Connect. Feature LicensesFeature licenses enable specific features on your Secure Access appliance.
Clustering LicensesClustering licenses enable clustering among Secure Access products. Cluster licenses vary by user count. The clustering user license on each appliance in the cluster should equal the user license on the primary appliance. For example: if you installed the SA6000-ADD-250U license on the primary unit, you should install the SA6000-CL-250U on every other unit in the cluster. In the new licensing model all the user and feature licenses should be installed on the primary unit only. On the rest (one or more) of the units in the cluster you should only install the clustering license. New HardwareJuniper SA 6000: A purpose-built hardened appliance that addresses the most complex and demanding secure enterprise and service provider access and authorisation needs with unsurpassed levels of performance and user scalability, as well as enhanced application and network delivery. You can add multiple appliances to multi-unit clusters for high availability and throughput. The Secure Access 6000 is a purpose-built hardened platform with dual Intel Xeon CPUs. Juniper SA 4000: Offers enterprise-class secure access. Cluster pairs are available for greater throughput and seamless failover. The Secure Access 4000 is an enterprise Intel Xeon purpose-built hardened appliance featuring a licensed-based SSL acceleration chipset with support for RC4, 3DES and AES encryption. Combining this with built-in compression for all traffic (HTTP, file, client / server applications) enables optimisation and delivery control and reducing response times. Juniper SA 2000: Delivers a cost-effective solution for mid-sized deployments. Cluster pairs are available for greater throughput and seamless failover. Juniper SA 700: New SME platform with additional application-layer functionality (Core Clientless Access for Web rewriting, file browsing and more). Can I use IVE v5.0 and below on the SA2/4/6000?No. IVE v5.1 is the first software release to support the SA2000, SA4000, and SA6000. Can I trade-in my old SA1/3/5000 for new hardware? No. There is no trade-in program. What will happen when I upgrade my SA1/3/5000 to IVE v5.1?Upon upgrading the IVE software detects the licenses that were installed on the system and converts them automatically to the new licensing model. No functionality will be lost and no human intervention is needed. What is the difference between the RA500 and the SA700?With SA700, you can add an optional license-based Core Clientless Access for Web rewriting, file browsing, and more. Can I buy a 50-user license for the SA700?No. The SA700 supports between 10 and 25 concurrent users only. Are there any benefits for existing customers?Yes!
