Workstation Deployment

Deployment

The size of operating systems together with the application programs has become extremely large and a typical Windows workstation image no longer fits on a single CD (over 600Mbyte). As Batch process type deployment methods, such as Zero Administration Kit introduced by Microsoft for Windows NT 4.0, takes far too long, workstation deployment now usually takes place using a combination of third party disk image tools and the “sysprep” utility.

Exlayer has been providing customers, particularly customers’ with world wide offices, with Windows deployment services. We carry out the overall project management, application compatibility testing, migration of email data and the introduction of Group Policy management.

Multilingual

Although Windows 2000 or XP is a multilingual operating system, this is not well known among many IT administrators. International companies had been waiting for these features for a long time and when it was finally implemented in Microsoft’s launch of Windows 2000 workstation, the corporations no longer needed to purchase duplicate licences for dual language versions of Windows. In addition, remote administration became much easier as menu and/or error messages were consistent in either language.

Introduction to the IDMS System

Image Deployment and Management System (IDMS) is an application base for deploying disk images and managing PC’s. Developed by one of our partners, DXSolutions Limited, IDMS uses PXE technology to bring users PC’s into a disk image distribution point, running on a windows or Linux server, to deploy a disk image or perform administrative tasks through an easy-to-use web based front end. IDMS can use any of the popular databases such as Oracle, MySQL or Microsoft SQL as end databases.
